With its expansive 21-drink menu and 10 coffee strength levels, the Jura Z8 is perfect for homes where several people will be using it.
The Z9 is a terrific choice for households where only one or two people will be using the espresso machine, as its options are slightly more limited.

SUPERAUTOMATIC MACHINE TYPE
If you’ve ever watched a barista at a coffee shop, you’ve likely noticed that are several steps to making each drink.
They need to grind the beans, steam the milk, and sometimes even time the shots of espresso themselves. This can obviously become complicated, and beginners attempting to make the same beverages might be disappointed with the results.
That’s where superautomatic machines like the Z8 and Z9 come in. They make barista-level espresso accessible to any skill level, even those with no experience whatsoever.
New employees can be trained to use these types of machines in minutes, and people using them at home will discover that they, too, can enjoy high-quality espresso beverages in their own kitchen.
DUAL THERMOBLOCK HEATING SYSTEMS
The boiler system in any espresso machine is absolutely vital.
Basically, it’s the part of the machine that heats your water for steaming or brewing. Because it’s so important, there are many different types of boiler designs out there, each with their own pros and cons.
The Z8 and Z9 use dual thermoblock heating systems. What makes this setup so exceptional is its ability to steam your milk and brew your espresso at the same time.
In a nutshell, it means these machines are even faster at making your drinks for you.
ADJUSTABLE BEVERAGE SPOUTS
There are few things in the world that are one-size-fits-all, and espresso drinks aren’t one of them.
Depending on how thirsty or tired you are, you may need more or less coffee. That’s why the drinks on coffee shop menus come in a variety of sizes to choose from.
With the Z8 and Z9, you can do the same thing at home. Their beverage spouts can be easily repositioned higher or lower so you can fit just about any of your cups beneath them.
If you’re searching for an espresso machine to use frequently at home, you’ll be interested in the size of the hopper.
What does hopper capacity mean for you? It refers to how much coffee can be stored in the machine.
The larger the hopper, the less often you have to refill it.
Both the Z8 and Z9 hoppers can hold a little over half a pound of coffee beans. It isn’t a humongous supply, but most home enthusiasts won’t need to worry about refills too often.
Homeowners really need to account for space, especially when they buy new appliances.
Since the Jura Z8 and Jura Impressa Z9 were designed with home use in mind, they’re both modestly sized so they can be squeezed into small spaces.
The Z8 is 15 inches tall, 12.6 inches wide, and 17.7 inches deep. The Z9, on the other hand, is 14.6 inches tall, 12.2 inches wide, and 17.7 inches deep.
This similarity in their dimensions means either one will be able to fit in to the same spaces.
ENERGY SAVE MODE
Jura strives to design energy-efficient machines for two reasons:
They can save you money, and reduce your carbon footprint.
That’s exactly why the Z8 and Z9 were built with an energy save mode. So how does it work?
When you turn the energy save mode on, your machine will automatically cool down in between each drink. Because it’s not working so hard to stay heated constantly, it doesn’t consume as much energy, leading to reduced utility bills.
This does mean you’d need to wait for it to warm up again when you make your next drink, but you can always turn the energy save mode off if you find it inconvenient.
NUMBER OF DRINK OPTIONS
You’ve probably heard the saying that variety is the spice of life, and it can be the same with espresso. With so many flavor profiles to explore, you’ll usually find coffee shop menus packed with all kinds of drinks.
Both the Z8 and Z9 come with pre-programmed drinks, but the Z8 offers almost twice as much with 21 different choices. Some of these are comfortable familiar selections, like a cappuccino, but there are additional options like jugs of coffee and strong Americanos.
The Z9 will offer you 12 choices, but these include many of the most popular coffee shop items, such as lattes or macchiatos. More likely than not, you’ll find your favorites on the Z9, as well.
COFFEE STRENGTH ADJUSTABILITY
Have you ever had one of those days where you needed a strong coffee to pull through?
Jura considered this when they created the Z8 and Z9, which both allow you to adjust the strength of your espresso.
The Z9 has 5 strength levels you can choose from depending on your mood.
The Z8, though, has 10 strength levels to tweak your brew with, giving you even more leeway to customize each drink.
WATER TANK CAPACITY
As pour-over models, these Jura machines need to be refilled by hand when their water tanks run low.
If you don’t want to have to refill them as often, you should examine what the water tank capacity is on each machine.
On the Z8, the water tank can hold about 2.4 liters of water. That’s an ample size, and you won’t need to worry about it running dry after just a few lattes.
The Z9’s water tank is even bigger, capable of holding up to 2.7 liters. Refills will be even fewer and farther between with this model.
JURA Z8 TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAY
The Jura Z8 incorporates modern technology with a central and intuitive touchscreen display.
You can alter your drinks, change settings on the machine, and start brewing with a few quick taps. It’s just like using a smartphone or tablet.
The Z9 uses a TFT color display. It’s also beautiful, controlled with sleek silver buttons on either side.
But if you prefer the easiness of a touchscreen, you can’t go wrong with the Z8.
JURA Z8 J.O.E APP COMPATIBILITY
One of the most brilliant things about the Jura Z8 is its ability to connect to the Jura Operation Experience (J.O.E.) app.
Through the app, you can order the machine to make drinks. You can even make queues of drinks, if you need more than one, such as for guests or even customers.
If you’re in the middle of a movie and want some coffee, no problem – just pull up the app and tell the Z8 to prepare it for you without needing to move from your couch.
WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU BUY?
Many of the Jura superautomatic machines are so alike, it’s hard to choose between any of them. With a closer look, though, you can find a few factors that may weigh in the favor of one or the other.
Do you often find it hard to get out of bed in the morning, or do you like the convenience of remote-control? If that sounds like you, the J.O.E. app in tandem with the Z8 will be a great decision for you.
Also take into consideration what kinds of drinks you’re going to make and who’s going to use the machine.
If you’ve got a full house of espresso fans who want to use the machine, it’s better to have more drinks to choose from so everyone has something they’d like. That’s where the 21-drink menu of the Z8 comes into play.
The Z8 also has ten different strength levels that each espresso can be adjusted to, so anyone can customize their drink to their liking.
But for many people, too many choices can become overwhelming. For those who just want the basics, the Z9 will be a fantastic addition to their home with its 12 drinks and 5 coffee strength levels.
