Why not have the best pumpkin spice coffee in your fridge and cabinet so you can satisfy that PSL craving whenever it hits?
I love pumpkin spice.
So I welcome pumpkin spice coffees with open arms and a full mug. 🙂
In this article, I've reviewed the best pumpkin spice coffees you can buy at your grocery store this year so you'll never run out!
Best Pumpkin Spice Coffee in 2020
Pumpkin spice coffee doesn't have to end with the season! Here are the best pumpkin spice coffees you can stock up on all year:
What is Pumpkin Spice Coffee?
You'll hear "pumpkin spice latte" thrown around from September until December like it's a common household item.
So beloved, the pumpkin spice coffee drink of the year at Starbucks is commonly referred to as "PSL".
"Yes, hi, can I have a PSL, please. Venti. Extra whip."
But what is pumpkin spice coffee? That depends where you're buying it.
Typically, pumpkin spice lattes are made with artificially flavored syrups, which are infused with your espresso and steamed milk.
Pumpkin spice coffee, however, is often infused with pumpkin pie spices!
This makes pumpkin spice coffees at the grocery store a seasonal favorite of mine.
They taste just like pumpkin pie when blended with milk or creamer and a little sweetener and are also delicious as black coffee.
Here are the ingredients of a typical pumpkin spice blend:
- cinnamon
- cloves
- nutmeg
- ginger
- allspice (sometimes)
When pumpkin spice is infused with the oils of coffee beans, pumpkin spice flavored coffees are deliciously warm and inviting.
Perfect for hosting around the holidays!
The key is getting a pumpkin spice coffee with a more natural pumpkin spice infusion and avoiding some of the artificial flavors you get with commercial syrups.
Also the sugar. A good pumpkin spice coffee will have sweetness pull through with cinnamon and other complimentary autumn flavors.

What Is So Good About Pumpkin Spice Coffee?
Where do I start? Well, if you like pumpkin pie, you'll love all things pumpkin spice. If you're not a fan of the Thanksgiving favorite, there is probably no convincing I can do to make you try (and love) pumpkin spice coffee.
But here are a few reasons to try pumpkin spice coffees:
It's Like Drinking Pumpkin Pie Out Of A Mug
Pumpkin pie in the form of a warm, caffeinated beverage? I think yes!
When blended with frothed milk (or any frothy milk alternative), a little sweetener and topped with whipped cream and a little cinnamon, pumpkin spice coffee tastes like a lighter version of your favorite holiday pie.
Who doesn't love pumpkin pie from September - December?
Pumpkin Pie Spice is Healthy
By the way, pumpkin spice is itself healthy, so you're getting some added benefits when adding it to your coffee.
Cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg have some great benefits for brain function.
As an anti-inflammatory, cinnamon may help protect the brain in the long-run, while ginger is thought to help protect brain cells from degeneration, including Alzheimer's disease.
Pumpkin itself is loaded with vitamin A and can help boost immunity (meaning you may get sick less often) and this grand fall gourd can also improve eyesight and help prevent heart disease!
The thing is, while all the above are healthy in your coffee, you do need to triple check the ingredients of whatever pumpkin spice coffee drink you're getting to make sure you're getting the real thing!
Variety
The really amazing thing about pumpkin pie coffees is that there are SO many options you can choose from.
From beans infused with pumpkin pie spice to lattes blended with pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice can add a lot of variety and fun to your home Fall coffee menu.
Because there are so many options, it's pretty hard to try them all (although I'm definitely on a mission to try them all! lol...).
To get the best pumpkin spice coffee...
- Ensure ingredients are all-natural, and avoid artificial flavorings
- Choose your milks wisely, and froth them to get that pumpkin pie whip taste!
- Add toppings to your pumpkin pie spice coffee! If you're making a coffee with a frothed milk, top with whip and add a few pieces of candy corn and a pinch of cinnamon.
If you're drinking your pumpkin spice coffee black, add a cinnamon stick or a dash of nutmeg, or even an orange peel. These little extras really bring out the pumpkin spice in your infused coffee!

- Basic, seasonally ground coffee with great flavor
- Kosher certified and gluten free
- Lansing, Michigan based roaster
This is the pumpkin pie flavored coffee for people who love pumpkin pie. While Paramount Roasters does have a pumpkin spice coffee too, this is the better of the two in my opinion.
Not as spicy as most pumpkin spice coffees, the milder flavor makes this great for folks looking for that.
There are even hints of vanilla and buttery crust and pumpkin is the star of this blend. One negative of this one: It does have some artificial flavoring to slightly sweeten the coffee without added sugar.
But for those of you who love Starbucks pumpkin spice coffee or the coveted Dunkin' Donuts version, this is a great alternative.
- Like a caffeinated, pumpkin ale
- Ready to drink
- Real pumpkin puree, nitrogen infused for a richness
- You also won't believe how low-cal this one is
La Colombe is known for great coffee, but this pumpkin spice draft latte is awesome. It's definitely an acquired taste, but for those who like a cool pumpkin ale, or other ales in general, or even nitro cold brew and pumpkin pie, you'll love this one!
Nice thing about this cold-breweque ready to drink coffee is that it stores well in your fridge for a grab and go option.
It's also really impressively low-cal for how rich it is. At just 100 calories a can, this is a no-guilt pumpkin spice coffee drink.
You also get all the health benefits of all natural ingredients: This brew actually has real pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin puree in it!
- Easily infuse your favorite coffee
- All-natural spices
- Great shelf life for off-season pumpkin spice coffee!
Ok, so this isn't a pumpkin spice coffee, per-say, but because it offers so many pumpkin spice brewing options, I couldn't leave it off the list.
Create your own coffee shop pumpkin spice treat at home any time with this pumpkin spice blend for pre-brew. All you do is add to your fresh coffee and mix slightly before water brewing.
The great thing about this spice blend is you can control how spicy you want your pumpkin spice coffee to be. You can also make pumpkin spice cold brew, by similarly steeping with your grounds overnight. Amazing!
- Medium to dark roast pumpkin spice blend
- Great, spicy flavor
- Smooth and bold
Another easy brew, off the shelf, pumpkin spice ground coffee I love is Trader Joe's pumpkin spice coffee canisters. These are super popular and hard to find in-stores because they're so popular.
100% Arabica beans in this blend makes for a really smooth, medium-dark roast brew that blends really great with milk if you want to cut the spice, and also tastes great black.
Plus it's all-natural, with no additives, which make it a great grocery store option.
This blend is also infused with orange peel, which gives a really unique seasonal flavor to compliment the pumpkin spice!
- Great medium roast
- More pumpkin flavor than spice
- Lacas is a New Jersey diner favorite
This seasonal Lacas pumpkin spice blend brings together that great New Jersey bottomless mug coffee with the autumn favorite.
Awesome for a big pot of fresh, drip coffee on a crisp autumn game night or bonfire with friends.
Also made with 100% Arabica beans, this is a smooth cup of joe, with a traditional pumpkin flavor at the fore and hints of nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger.
Top Pick: Trader Joe's Pumpkin Spice Coffee
Trader Joe's Pumpkin Spice Coffee (if you can get it before it's gone -- I've linked to it here) is the BEST, off the shelf grocery store coffee beans you can find. Great value, and great taste in a reusable canister make this TJ's blend tops.
I also really, really love that hint of orange peel in the blend. So, so good.
I find this pumpkin spice coffee to be best black, but you can brew it a little stronger to blend with whole milk for a delicious pumpkin pie-like coffee treat, without the heavy cream and sugar.
The sweetness of cinnamon and orange peel really pull through.
